Since the beginning of modern civilization man has lavishly adorned buildings with polished marble, to this day it still remains a testament to fine living everywhere. Marble is a metamorphic rock and is the result of extreme heat and pressure applied to limestone. The distinctive crystalline structure of marble allows it to be polished to a high gloss, which creates the illusion of depth. Coming in a vast array of colours, with good strength, marble is ideal for use as a floor or wall covering.
The characteristic swirls and veins of many colored marble varieties were originally present as grains or layers in the limestone due to various mineral impurities such as clay, silt, sand and iron oxides.
